U.S. Defense Dept. Demands Reconsideration of NK's Satellite Launch Plan

The U.S. Department of Defense has demanded North Korea to uphold its international responsibilities, warning Pyongyang that it would be a “very clear violation” of UN resolutions if it decides to an earth observation satellite into space by means of a long-range rocket.

Pentagon spokesman Navy Captain John Kirby urged the North Korean leadership to reconsider a decision to launch a satellite into space by means of a long-range racket.

Kirby also said Washington would continue to cooperate with the South Korean government by holding firmly to their bilateral alliance obligations to maintain security on the Korean peninsula.

The comments came after State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the North’s planned launch would make food aid support from the U.S. difficult.
