US Gas Prices Near Record Level

Gasoline prices in the U.S. are nearing an all-time high.

Data by the American Automobile Association show that prices at the pump in the U.S. were an average three-point-eight dollars a gallon on Sunday for the ninth straight day.

The average price rose 17 percent from the start of this year and is nearing the July 2008 record of four dollars and eleven cents.

The cost of fueling up in Alaska, California, New York and Washington DC has exceeded an average four dollars, while gas is the most expensive in Hawaii at four dollars 48 cents a gallon.

Republican presidential hopefuls are attacking President Obama over the high gas prices, and frontrunner Mitt Romney is calling on the president to replace the secretaries of energy and interior and the head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
