US : NK's Satellite Launch Would Violate UN Resolution

The United States has reiterated that North Korea's planned launch of the Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite would be a breach of UN Security Council resolutions.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters on Monday that the U.S. would consider the launch to put a satellite into space by the North a violation not only of their UN obligations but of their commitments with Washington.

Nuland also noted that both Russia and China have made clear that North Korea should not violate its international obligations.

Regarding reports that North Korea asked IAEA monitors to visit the North's nuclear facilities, Nuland said Washington had not heard about a formal invitation.
