China May Liberalize Interest Rates

The head of the People’s Bank of China says conditions are basically ripe for China to push forward with interest rate liberalization.

In a recent issue of a Chinese financial magazine, Chinese central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said China should open up its financial markets and enhance the two-way flexibility of the yuan.

Economists view his remarks as a sign that the Chinese financial market is again embracing a reform program, which has remained shelved amid the financial crisis.
