US to Turn to UN Security Council if N. Korea Launches Rocket

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice says if North Korea follows through with a rocket launch the U.S. will seek strong countermeasures at the UN Security Council.

Rice made the statement during a hearing at the U.S. House on Wednesday after she was asked how Washington intends to deal with the North's plan to launch its Kwangmyongsong-3 satellite.

The UN ambassador stressed that the member countries of the Security Council all agree that the North’s rocket launch would be a breach of UN Resolutions 1718 and 1874.

Rice said the U.S. and other nations are underlining to the North that it would not be wise to launch the satellite.
