NK Adheres to Missile Launch Plan in Talks with US

North Korea apparently dug in its heels over its plan to launch the Kwangmyongsong-3 missile during recent informal talks with the U.S.

Japan’s state-run NHK TV reported that the U.S. and North Korea held the informal talks on the sidelines of a seminar in Germany.

NHK said the civilian delegation from the U.S. included former U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering, while the North Korean group was led by Ri Gun, the director general for North American affairs at North Korea’s Foreign Ministry.

Quoting a German researcher who attended the seminar, NHK said North Korea showed no sign that it will cancel the missile launch. The Japanese broadcaster added that North Korea has shown no changes regarding the launch, and only the leader of North Korean can make such important decisions.
