British Destroyer Heads to Waters Near Falkland Islands

Britain’s Ministry of Defense says it will send one of its most modern warships to waters near the disputed Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The dispatch of the destroyer “HMS Dauntless” is drawing attention, as it comes amid growing tension between Britain and Argentina in the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War.

The British Ministry of Defense said the one-billion-dollar destroyer will leave Portsmouth on April fifth and stay in the South Atlantic Ocean for six months.

The ministry stressed that the warship is not going to the Falkland Islands but to the South Atlantic Ocean on a routine operation.

The Dauntless is armed with long-range ship-to-air missiles.
