Japan's Foreign Policy Report to Reassert Territorial Rights over Dokdo

The Japanese government is planning to release a report on the nation’s foreign policy, in which Tokyo will reassert territorial claims over the Dokdo islets as its own.

According to diplomatic sources, the Japanese government is scheduled to hold a Cabinet meeting on Friday to approve the Diplomatic Blue Book 2012 and officially release it through Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Japan’s territorial claim over the Dokdo islets in this year’s foreign policy report is said to have been left unchanged from last year’s blue book.

Last year’s report stated Tokyo’s stance over the Dokdo islets. It said that although there are territorial disputes over Dokdo between South Korea and Japan, the islets are part of Japan’s territory not only historically but also under international law.

The Japanese government is also expected to reiterate its territorial claim over the Dokdo islets in its Defense White Paper, which is set to be released around July.
