Japan Displays Confidence in Defense Missile System

Japanese media cited Japan’s defense ministry on Sunday, saying its defense missile system has accuracy over 80 percent in regard to North Korea’s plan to launch a long-range rocket.

According to NHK and other Japanese media, Vice Defense Minister Shu Watanabe assured reporters during a visit to Okinawa, that Japan’s defense system has an accuracy rate over 80 percent in the case North Korea’s missile happens to fall into Japanese territory.

As the Japanese government warned earlier, it now has Patriot missiles placed in seven regions in the country and Aegis cruisers deployed in the eastern China Sea and the East Sea.

The vice defense minister also urged soldiers during his visit to a military base in the southern island of Okinawa that they carry “a sense of duty and give their undivided attention to their duties.”
