Talks over Iranian Nuke Program to Resume

Nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany are set to reopen after a 15-month hiatus.

European Union spokesman Michael Mann said the negotiations will begin in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 14th. He said the hope is that the talks will produce a conducive environment for concrete progress.

The U.S. and its European allies are seeking to avoid a repeat of the failure in the previous negotiations held in Istanbul in January 2011. The meeting collapsed after Tehran demanded the lifting of sanctions on it as a precondition for discussing its nuclear program.

In a joint statement on March eighth, the U.S. and its five partners, including China, Russia, France, Germany and Britain, said that they hoped for sustained discussions to persuade Iran to allow UN inspectors into the Parchin military complex south of Tehran.
