Consumer prices were on an upward trend in China last month.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics said the consumer price index jumped three-point-six percent year-on-year in March.

The bureau said food prices rose seven-point-five percent and were the main culprit for the jacked-up consumer price index. Prices for nonfood products grew one-point-eight percent.

March’s consumer price growth was higher than the figure in February at three-point-two percent but still lower than Beijing’s goal to tame inflation at four percent or less.
