OECD Warns Against Growing Income Gap in US

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is warning against the deepening income gap in the U.S.

The OECD said in a report on the U.S. economy that the U.S. income imbalance is the third most serious among its 34 member countries, following Chile and Mexico. The report said in the U.S. roughly five-point-three million people, which is over 40 percent of the country’s jobless population, have failed to land jobs for upwards of 27 weeks.

The OECD also expressed concerns about the serious fiscal deficit of the United States, proposing that the U.S. government increase taxes on the rich and gasoline for more national revenues.

But the organization predicted that the unemployment rate in the U.S. will drop from the current eight-point-two percent to seven-point-six percent next year, noting growing signs of an economic recovery.
