More Korean-Chinese People Apply for S.Korean Visas

A growing number of Korean-Chinese people are applying for South Korean visas now that the government has eased visa rules for children of ethnic Koreans of foreign citizenship who live in South Korea.

The South Korean consulate in Shenyang, China, said that since the entry rules were relaxed, visa applications for Korean-Chinese people’s children have jumped from an average of 900 to more than one-thousand-500 a day.

The South Korean government eased the visa rules in April for eligible children 25 years or younger.

As a result, 19-thousand visa applications are pending review, lengthening the visa approval period from a week to three weeks for tourist visas and up to six weeks for short-term visits.
