'N. Korean OKs S. Koreans to Tour Mt. Geumgang via China'

A newspaper for ethnic Koreans living in China’s Jilin Province says North Korea has allowed South Koreans to use a tour package linking the Chinese province with North Korea.

Quoting the tour agency behind the tour, the Jilin Daily reported on Wednesday that the North allowed foreign tourists, including South Koreans, to apply for the trip, which takes tourists from Yanji City in Jilin to Pyongyang and Mount Geumgang.

However, only South Koreans who obtained Chinese multiply-entry visas or resident permits can apply for North Korean tourist visas.

Regarding the report, an official in Seoul said that since the South imposed punitive measures on May 24th, 2010, South Koreans’ visits to the North are strictly restricted and tours are not permitted.
