China Denies Alleged Torture of Activist

In Beijing, the Chinese government has denied allegations that South Korean activist Kim Young-hwan was tortured during his detention in China.

An official at the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman's office said Chinese authorities concerned in the investigation of Kim conducted the probe according to law. The official made the remark in response to an inquiry by KBS asking for Beijing's stance on the torture allegations.

The official claimed that the legitimate rights of Kim and the other detained South Korean activists were guaranteed and that it already conveyed this fact to Seoul.

This is Beijing's first official response to the alleged torture raised by the South Korean activist.
