US to Provide Syrian Rebels with Nonlethal Support

The U.S. is poised to offer more support to antigovernment rebels in Syria fighting government forces.

The U.S. State Department said it set aside 25 million dollars to provide nonlethal aid such as communication devices to Syrian antigovernment rebels. It also set aside 64 million dollars for humanitarian aid for the Syrian people.

The Department of Treasury said that it will allow a Washington-based organization against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government to make financial transactions for antigovernment rebels in Syria.

Meanwhile, U.S. government sources say that U.S. President Barack Obama ordered U.S. intelligence agencies to aid Syrian antigovernment rebels.
