US States Want Japan to Cover Tsunami Debris Cleanup Costs

U.S. Pacific states are demanding Japan provide financial support to clean up debris that washed onto West Coast beaches after Japan was hit by a disastrous earthquake in March last year.

U.S. states on the Pacific coast, including Oregon, said they don't have the funds to clean up the debris from Japan.

Japan’s Environment Ministry is discussing financial support with the U.S. state governments through a nongovernmental organization in order to help dispose the earthquake-related trash.

The ministry estimates that 40-thousand tons of garbage arrived on the Pacific shorelines of the U.S.
