UN Security Council to Hold Ministerial Meeting on Syria

The UN Security Council will hold a ministerial-level meeting as part of its efforts to end the fighting between government forces and antigovernment rebels in Syria.

A UN official said the ministerial meeting will be held on August 30th at the request of France, which currently sits as the rotating chair country of the Security Council.

But it remains unclear if Russia and China will attend the ministerial meeting. Through July, both nations boycotted three times UN resolutions urging nonmilitary sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
