A female shot putter has been stripped of her Olympic title after testing positive twice for doping.

The International Olympic Committee announced Belarusian Nadzeya Ostapchuk's formal expulsion from the games and the withdrawal of her gold medal on Monday in the first case of an athlete losing a medal for doping at the 2012 London Olympics.

Ostapchuk tested positive for the anabolic agent metenolone during in-competition testing on August fifth and the sixth before an IOC hearing ruled on her expulsion. She placed first in the women’s shot put event on August sixth.

Metenolone is a steroid and muscle booster. The use of the substance was banned beginning from the London Olympics.
