Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun says that Japan’s Foreign Ministry will replace its ambassadors to South Korea, the U.S. and China this fall.
The Japanese daily reported that Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa will be replaced by Shinichi Nishimiya, deputy foreign minister in charge of economic affairs. Deputy foreign minister in charge of political affairs, Koro Bessho, will likely be the next ambassador to South Korea, and Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Kenichiro Sasae will serve as the next ambassador to the U.S.
The daily explained that the Japanese Foreign Ministry upgraded the rank of its ambassador to South Korea from a deputy director to deputy minister in an effort to improve relations between the two countries.
Japan will replace ambassadors to South Korea and the U.S. in September. The ambassador to China will be replaced in October, following an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and China on September 29th.
