Men Detained in Chinese Milk Scandal

Two Chinese men have been detained by police for allegedly selling large batches of expired milk.

A Chinese newspaper reported that Mengniu Dairy Group manipulated the expiration dates on batches of milk and released them into the market.

Security officials in Pujiang County in Zhejiang Province detained a company sales manager and his accomplice on suspicion of tampering with the dates.

About five-thousand cartons of milk with false expiration dates were circulated in the market.

China was shocked by a scandal over melamine-tainted milk and infant formula in 2008. At that time, China reported an estimated 300-thousand victims, including six infants, dying from kidney stones.
