A U.S. college student has been sentenced to probation for making threats online to assassinate President Barack Obama.

On Wednesday, 21-year-old Joaquin Serrapio was sentenced to three years of probation and four months of house arrest for threatening to kill and harm the president.

In February, investigators found a Facebook post by the University of Miami student asking for help to assassinate Obama.

A U.S. District Judge said there was no evidence that Serrapio intended to carry out the threats, but it chose probation to serve as a warning against the wrong use of the internet.
