Details of Apple’s Licensing Offer to Samsung Revealed

The details of a licensing offer Apple made to Samsung Electronics in 2010 have been made public.

Legal news Web site Groklaw reports that Apple demanded the rate of 30 U.S. dollars per licensed smartphone and 40 U.S. dollars per licensed tablet PC.

Apple also offered a 20 percent discount on the rates if Samsung agreed on mutual exchanges of patented technologies.

Apple’s offer of the licensing rates was revealed in part by witnesses during trials on patent suits between the two companies. But this is the first time that the details of the offer have been disclosed.

Groklaw said that Apple complained about Samsung’s licensing rates being too high, despite demanding higher rates than Samsung.
