The top diplomats of South Korea and China met for roughly three hours on Wednesday to discuss rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

During the talks in Beijing, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi agreed to boost strategic communications to respond to North Korea’s threats regarding nuclear tests and missile launches.

In particular, a hotline will be established between the two ministers to discuss emergency situations, including issues regarding the North. Exchanges and contacts between South Korea and China’s security authorities will also be expanded.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with Yun, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang stressed the need to boost bilateral cooperation for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The Chinese officials also conveyed to Yun that the Chinese people will warmly welcome President Park Geun-hye if she visits Beijing in the near future.
