World Bank President Jim Yong Kim has stressed the need for South Korea to hand down its experiences and lessons on development to underdeveloped nations.
Kim made the statement when he met with Seoul National University President Oh Yeon-cheon at World Bank headquaters in Washington.
The World Bank chief emphasized that South Korea’s experiences of development are significant and make South Korea a key player in the international community.
With Seoul National University, the World Bank decided to carry out joint pilot projects in underdeveloped countries using the university's education capabilities in the areas of agriculture, health care and energy.
Seoul National University also plans to carry out research with the George Washington University on ways to globalize South Korea’s ondol, or traditional floor heating system.
Meanwhile, the World Bank is actively mulling ways to work with South Korea to support North Korea, a typical underdeveloped nation, based on South Korea’s development know-how.
