Media Say Abe Seeking to Strengthen Japan’s Military Power

International newspapers say Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s recent inflammatory remarks are part of his calculated efforts for strengthening Japan’s military power.

The Wall Street Journal said that Abe is shifting from an initial focus on economy to the controversial issues of revisiting its wartime legacy to make Japan’s military power more muscular.

The U.S. daily added that Abe is using a detour tactic, given the revision of Japan’s six-decade-old pacifist constitution could invite resistance from South Korea, China and even liberal opposition camps inside Japan.

China’s newspaper, the China Daily, said that Japan’s constitutional revision is a "cause for concern for the rest of the world."
