The United States says a diplomatic official at the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang met with detained U.S. citizen Kenneth Bae on April 26.

Bae has been held in North Korea since last year and was recently indicted.

According to U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang has been working closely with Washington on issues regarding U.S. citizens inside North Korea.

Regarding Bae, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson had expressed hopes that the Korean-American will be set free on humanitarian terms. Richardson had visited North Korea earlier this year.
