Another Japanese lawmaker has built on the wave of controversial remarks on Tokyo's wartime history expressed by Japanese politicians in recent days.
Japan’s Restoration Party member Shingo Nishimura said Friday that Japan is currently swarmed with Korean prostitutes. He said his nation must counter foreign news media labeling comfort women as sex slaves.
As his statement became increasingly viewed as justifying military brothels and degrading Korea, the lawmaker withdrew his remarks.
Amid the escalating scandal over controversial remarks coming from Restoration Party members, Japan's Your Party declared it will suspend its election cooperation with the Restoration Party.
Meanwhile, the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan which sought ties with the Restoration Party to pursue a constitutional amendment has yet to issue an official stance on this matter. The LDP is being criticized for its wait and see, lukewarm attitude.
