A group of Japanese scholars visited South Korea on Tuesday and criticized Tokyo's claims to the Dokdo islets.

Four members of a Japanese civic group opposed to Japan's claims of South Korea's easternmost islets held a news conference at Busan City Hall. They said Japan’s territorial claims are based on the condition of the Russo-Japanese War and stem from imperialistic ideas.

The Japanese scholars also announced a plan to make a history textbook to counter the historical distortions, saying Japanese historians' inaction is also responsible for the distortion.

The scholars plan to visit the East Sea islets on Wednesday.
