Internet portal giant Naver plans to scrap its real-time, most-searched keyword list service.

Naver made the announcement Thursday, saying it will be taking down the search chart for emerging hot keywords on February 25.

Naver launched the search list in May 2005, which displays the most searched words on its site based on the increase rate in keyword input during a set span of time.

The list became a barometer of what the Korean people were most interested in at any given time of the day.

The announcement comes in the wake of controversy over Naver's alleged manipulation of public opinion and links with advertisements.
