Singer Lee Jung-hyun has been named the peace envoy for UNESCO.

She was named peace envoy at the 8th annual international youth culture and arts festival in Shandong, China. Hailing Lee as one of the more influential stars in Asia, organizers of the event expressed hope that the singer will dedicate herself to promoting the message of peace to youth around the world.

The event was also attended by numerous top Chinese celebrities as well as some 6,000 dignitaries, including government officials and representatives from foreign embassies. Some 100,000 youths from 20 countries also attended the event. The United Nations called the event one of the most important events promoting global peace.

Lee plans to actively begin her career in China in the second half of the year.
