MBC hit “Dae Jang Geum” (“Jewel In the Palace”) will travel to Europe. In honor of “Chuseok,” or the Korean Harvest Moon Festival, a special event held by the British Museum will feature the drama to show the culture and food of Korea.
A 93-minute highlight reel of the show will be screened at the museum on the 22nd in the BP Lecture Theater. The first few minutes of the video will feature an introduction of the Hallyu Wave that began with “Dae Jang Geum” and how the popularity of the show extended to more than 40 countries around the world.
The Chuseok exhibition at the British Museum will feature performances, workshops and films. It will include the “Ceremony of Jangseung (Village guardian)” a “Pungmul” performance, the folk dance “Gang-gang-sulle,” soap sculpting amongst other events.
This is the first time a Korean drama has been introduced in Europe and the drama’s inclusion in the British Museum’s festival is meaningful. The attention it will receive will help it, and other Korean cultural works, enter the European market.
