The Giant in the Big Pot

The Giant in the Big Pot
Once upon a time, a young boy lived with his parents in a mountain village. The family was not very well-off, but the diligent parents and the good-hearted son were always happy. One day, the father went to the mountain to collect some firewood but he didn’t return home after dark. Of course, the mother and the son were very worried about him. They stayed up all night, waiting for him to return, but the father never came back, even when the day broke.

The son decided to search for his father himself. Before leaving, he reassured his mother and promised her that he would bring the father back home. The boy scoured the mountain all day but he couldn’t find his lost father. Frustrated and exhausted, the little boy flopped down on the ground. Before long, he fell asleep in spite of himself. Suddenly, an old man with a long, white beard appeared and said to the boy. “You’re such a good son. I’m impressed. I’ll help you locate your father. Go get a bag of fleas, a bag of bedbugs, and a bag of needles. With those things, you will be able to find your father.” The boy was about to ask the old man something when he suddenly woke up. It turned out he was dreaming. The vivid dream continued to linger on in his mind. The boy decided to follow the old man’s instructions, as he was ready to do anything as long as he could find his beloved father.

The young boy managed to obtain the fleas, bedbugs, and needles and went up to the mountain again to look for his father. As instructed, he was carrying each of these things in a separate bag. When night fell, he saw a flickering light in the distance. He went toward the light and found that it was an empty house. He went into the house to stay there for the night. When the boy was about to fall asleep, he heard a loud, stomping sound outside. He peeked out through the crack of the door. He saw a huge man, whose body was so big that it looked as if it filled the entire yard. The little boy was afraid, but he continued watching what the giant was doing. The giant approached a shabby shed and flung open the door. To the boy’s surprise, there were lots of people locked up in the shed. It wasn’t an empty house, after all. More surprisingly, the boy saw his father was also in the crowd. Now the boy realized that the evil giant had taken many people, including his father, and shut them up in the shed. After checking if everyone was in the shed, the giant closed the door and entered his room to sleep. Soon, he began to snore loudly.

The boy thought it was time to save his father. He remembered the old man in his dream. He quietly entered the room where the giant was sleeping and let the bag of fleas loose before he quickly got out of the room. Countless fleas all began to bite the giant relentlessly. Startled and annoyed, the giant tore out of the room and rolled around on the floor, screaming and scratching his body. Now the boy unpacked the bag of bedbugs. The giant’s body was immediately covered with the black bedbugs, which bit the man severely. Finally, the boy threw the bag of needles at the giant. Miraculously, the needles began to prick the giant as if they were alive. Attacked by fleas, bedbugs, and sharp needles, the giant jumped up and down and finally ran into the kitchen. He hid himself in a big pot on the furnace and closed the lid so nothing could go in. The boy followed him and placed lots of big rocks on top of the lid before making a fire in the furnace. The giant in the pot let out a piercing shriek until he was burnt to death.

After making sure that the giant was dead, the boy ran toward the shed and opened the door. He shouted, “Dad, it’s me! The evil giant was dead. Let’s go home.” The father and other people who had been confined in the shed all burst out in the open air and hugged each other in delight. They opened another shed, which was filled with food and treasures that the giant had stolen. They shared the treasures equally among them and returned to their homes to reunite with their family members. Of course, the son also went back home with his father, and the family of three lived happily ever after.
