Big Bang Wins MTVE's Worldwide Act Award

Big Bang beat out some of the biggest internationally-renowned musical acts to win the 2011 MTV Europe Music Award for the worldwide Act category.

Stars like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, LMFAO, and Coldplay were also nominated. However, k-pop's global influence was once again proven when the five-memered idol group snatched the big win.

The Worldwide Act category aims to honor those that show much diversity and breadth in music.

Big Bang first won in the preliminary round of voting for different regions. As one of the artists in the Asia Pacific region, Big Bang shot ahead of acts like Japan's Exile, China/Taiwan's Jay Chou, Australia's Gotye and Sia, China's Jane Zhang, and Indonesia's Agnes Monica. After winning that round, they advanced to the finals where they were up against Africa/India/Middle East's rep Abdelfattah Grini, Europe's Lena, Latin America's Restart, and North America's Britney Spears.

VIPs celebrated around the world when the group was the first recipient of the award, held at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena
