KARA & Girls Generation At Top Tier Of Japanese Album Sales
Girls groups KARA and Girls Generation have once again proved their popularity in Japan.


While KARA placed 4th on Oricon's 2011 Total Annual Sales By Artist, Girls Generation was only one spot behind at 5th.


Japan's biggest music chart, Oricon, compiled a list of singles and albums that had the highest sales from December 27, 2010 to December 19, 2011.


More specifically, KARA retrieved 4.926 billion yen or about 73.166 billion won, making them fourth. Popular Japanese idol group AKB48 earned about 16.2 billion yen, Arashi with 15.3 billion yen, and Exile with 5.6 billion yen. Girls Generation earned 4.049 billion yen, rounding out the top five.


According to Oricon's 2011 Annual Album Sales rankings, KARA was at 7th place having sold 450,595 copies of "Super Girl", and at 22nd place with "Girls Talk" having sold 277,306. Their single "Go Go Summer" (230,082 sold) was ranked at 25th on the Annual Singles Sales charts, while Rollercoaster Love" (225,175 sold) followed at 26th.


Girls Generation also ranked on the 2011 Annual Album Sales rankings with "Girls Generation" having sold 642,054 copies, putting them in fifth place. "Hoot" saw 148,761 copies be sold, putting it at 42nd place.
