Part 03. The Korean War: Pitting Brother Against Brother
The third episode of Korea Panorama 70 years is about a war considered as the greatest tragedy in Korean history. It is the Korean War that broke out when North Korea launched a surprise attack against South Korea in the morning hours of June 25, 1950. The war devastated the entire Korean Peninsula and left millions of soldiers and civilians dead, wounded and displaced. Among the casualties were U.N. troops sent from 16 countries around the world. The gunfire ceased when a truce was signed on July 27th, 1953, but that was not a true end to the fighting. South and North Korea are still technically at war, with permanent peace still seemingly beyond our grasp and separated families on both sides of the border longing to see their loved ones.
