Summer is in full swing and it’s time for a style change! To help you stay fashion-forward, today I’m going to introduce tips on how to style “short” shorts—a must-have for summer 2014.

Temperatures are rising and that means it’s time to pull out the shorts. One thing to notice about this season’s shorts is that they are getting shorter—for both women and men. For women, super short styles are totally “in” at the moment. Regardless of your body shape, with the right styling tips in mind, short shorts can be a summer staple for any fashionista. Short shorts are extremely versatile—as they pair well with just about any other summer staple in your wardrobe—everything from plain t-shirts, button-down shirts, lightweight summer knits to cropped blazers and sweatshirts. For casual outings, choose a pair of super short white shorts and team up the look with a spicy orange t-shirt. Add strappy sandals and a metallic clutch to the mix and show off your fashion sense. For a sexy date ensemble, opt for a pair of tailored black short shorts and pair them with a silky blouse and a cropped blazer. Mix and match a bold blend of bangles and a statement necklace and instantly jazz up your ensemble.

Next, candy colored looks are still very much “in” this summer. We love the season’s hottest candy colors trending at the moment—including but not limited to bright neon yellows, pinks, reds, oranges, greens as well as more subtle hues like mint greens, bubblegum pinks, juicy peaches and soft purples. Invest in a pair of candy colored shorts in any of the season’s hottest hues and spice up your everyday look. Pair them with a plain top and a pair of flat gladiator sandals. A pair of hot pink short shorts teamed with something as plain as a grey or white tee can be a great outfit option for running errands around the town or for any weekend getaway.

In addition, we are seeing more fashion-conscious men rocking shorter shorts and statement style shorts. To revamp your style, choose shorts featuring bold patterns and prints and pair them with solid tops to keep the look toned down. For casual outings, opt for a bold, colorful pair of shorts in electric blues, turquoise greens, sunflower yellows and more and instantly take your look from drab to fab. Match with a simple tee and a pair of sandals and you have a perfect outfit for any lovely summer day!
