Painter Lee Kang-wook, leading K-art with abstract painting

Born in 1976 and graduated from in 2001, Lee’s award-winning career took off in 2001 as he graduated from Hongik University Graduate School. He swept a series of renowned art awards and these stellar achievements had won him the art world’s attention as a rising star in Korean abstract painting. Since then he has sold all his paintings at every exhibit, garnering the recognition of collectors and art critics. But Lee became disheartened by some people who bought up artworks as investment. So he decided to bid goodbye to art for a while. After studying in the United Kingdom for several years, he introduced the “Gesture” series is a complete departure from his previous artistic vision, which tried to show both the microscopic cellular world and the universe on a same canvas. Art lovers can’t wait to see what new world Lee Kang-wook is going to show them this time, now that he’s returned to Korea with a healthier mind and body.
