Festival organizer and culture designer Han Gil-woo

2016-08-09

The person who turned the City Hall Plaza into a big rainwater playground by hosting the Rainwater Festival was Han Gil-woo, the CEO of Mueonga Planning. The word “Mueonga” in the company name means “something” in Korean, a telling sign that its CEO’s head is always filled with ideas about organizing “something.” It’s not too wrong to say that almost all unusual festivals in Korea came from Han’s brain.

He is a never-ending fountain of amusing festival ideas. While pouring out countless ideas about cultural events and turning his visions into actual festivals, a turning point in his career came three years ago, when he turned the middle of Sinchon area in Seoul into a huge venue for water pistol fights.

Nothing could stop his desire to make life a little fun for people - not even the tragic ferry accident in 2014, a MERS outbreak in 2015, and even a fire that burned down his entire office. Rather, these setbacks gave him a whole new perspective on life and motivated him to try even harder to make life a little more amusing for people. Han’s ultimate dream is to open a festival school so that people who love festivals can find their livelihood in festival organizing.
