Grey Youth Choir, an icon of elderly culture comprised entirely of senior citizens

2016-09-13

The Grey Youth Choir was first formed on a now-cancelled KBS variety show called “Qualifications of Men.” The show aired a special project in which middle-aged and elderly people 52 years or older auditioned for the choir.

It’s been six years since the show went off air. Some of the members have been replaced, but the Grey Youth Choir keeps on singing more energetically than any other choirs. And it has done something that no Korean choir has done before - sing at the U.N. Headquarters. Another one of the distinguishing features of the Grey Youth Choir is that it’s Korea’s only nationwide choir, with members traveling from all over the nation to participate in the Tuesday practice session.

The choir members are now busy preparing for a year-end in-house audition in which they show off how much they’ve developed their talents over the year. Their dream now is to become the best senior citizens’ choir in the world. Nothing is impossible for the Grey Youth Group members who stopped aging the moment they joined the ensemble.
