Average Daily Driving Distance Down

The average daily car trip is becoming increasingly shorter.

According to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, a South Korean car travelled an average of 43-point-nine kilometers a day last year, down 17-point-three kilometers from 61-point-two kilometers in 2002.

The authority made the finding after analyzing the mileage traveled by seven-point-44 million vehicles in 2014.

By car type, passenger vehicles traveled 37-point-six kilometers on average a day, vans 62-point-two kilometers and trucks 51-point-five kilometers.

The agency attributed the drop to the increased number of families owning multiple cars and to the greater use of public transportation such as subways and KTX high-speed trains.
