South Korea has suspended the broadcasting of a propaganda radio program into North Korea.

The defense ministry said Monday in a press notice that it has halted the “Voice of Freedom” broadcasts as part of efforts to ease military tensions between the two Koreas.

The South Korean military reportedly stopped transmitting the program early Monday.

The broadcasts had resumed in May 2010 after the North launched a deadly attack on the South Korean naval warship the Cheonan.

In June this year at President Lee Jae Myung’s orders, the South Korean military also suspended loudspeaker broadcasts along the border with the North and removed the loudspeakers.
