Bill Urges Japanese Apology for Comfort Women

The National Assembly has passed a resolution urging Japan's official apology and compensation to restore the honor of Korean women forced into sexual slavery for Japanese soldiers during World War Two.

The Assembly passed the bill in a plenary session Monday.

The resolution calls on Tokyo to apologize for enslaving women in the Asia Pacific region and forcing them to sexually serve the Japanese Imperial Army from the 1930s to the end of the Second World War.

It also calls on Japan to sufficiently recognize its crimes against humanity in its domestic school history books, compensate the victims and promptly enact related laws.
