U.S. experts on North Korea will visit the reclusive communist state next week to meet with high-ranking officials.
A source familiar with the Obama administration’s policies toward North Korea told Seoul-based Yonhap News Agency that the experts will visit Pyongyang on Tuesday for five days, meeting with high-ranking officials of the North, including Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan.
The delegation will be composed of about seven officials, including former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Stephen Bosworth and former Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research Morton Abramowitz.
This will be the first nongovernmental exchange between the two countries since U.S. President Barack Obama took office.
Though not officially arranged by the White House, the meeting may influence the policies of the U.S. since Bosworth is reportedly considered for a position as a special envoy to North Korea.
