Foreign Media Cover NK's Nullification of Agreements

Major Western media outlets have reported in detail North Korea's declaration to unilaterally nullify political and defense agreements with South Korea.

Covering the statement issued by the North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, foreign media noted Pyongyang's vow to scrap the Northern Limit Line on the West Sea.

Reports also projected that North Korea likely suffered major losses from West Sea naval clashes with the South in 1999 and 2002. The reports also said that South Korea expressed regret on the North's statement.

The Associated Press also mentioned that inter-Korean ties have cooled since South Korean President Lee Myung-bak took office last year.

Citing North Korea experts, the BBC and most foreign media said the communist state's latest move is aimed to gain an upper hand during future talks with the new U.S. administration.
