The U.S. State Department says that the steady hostile rhetoric streaming out of North Korea in regards to its neighbor to the South is in no way helpful.

The North made a statement on Thursday saying that it is nullifying all political and military agreements with South Korea.

The department’s acting spokesman Robert Wood told reporters that the North’s rhetoric will not assist in efforts to make the Korean Peninsula nuclear free but will not deter the U.S. from continuing its efforts to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

He added that the new U.S. administration has yet to make a decision regarding whether or not an envoy to North Korea will be appointed.
