Clinton Likely to Choose Asia for First Trip

The New York Times says U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will likely to choose Asia for her first foreign trip.

The U.S. daily reported Friday that no final decision has been made on her travel schedules, but she is known to be leaning toward China, Japan and South Korea.

The report said an Asia trip will allow her to check in with strong U.S. ally Japan and take stock of U.S. economic rival China.

The Times said a stop in South Korea would put Clinton close to one of her looming challenges, North Korea’s nuclear program.

The paper quoted officials as saying that with many big names trooping off to Europe, Clinton could deliver a greater diplomatic punch by going to Asia.
