Japanese Foreign Minister to Visit Seoul Tuesday

Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone will visit South Korea Tuesday to meet with Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan.

In his two-day trip to Seoul, the two countries will coordinate their strategy on ending North Korea’s nuclear weapons program ahead of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Asia later this month.

Nakasone is expected to ask for Seoul’s cooperation on the issue of past abductions of Japanese nationals by North Korea.

Nakasone and Yu are expected to discuss follow-ups to the latest summit agreement between the two nations, including cooperation on the reconstruction of Afghanistan and promotion of bilateral exchanges.
