US Urges Allies to Share Security Burden

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden asked for increased assistance from allies in the fight for global security at the annual Munich security conference under way in Germany.

He said Washington will continue to do more to end extremism but that in order to do so, it will require more help from the international community.

Contrary to the stance taken by the former Bush administration, Biden said the U.S. is now open to talks with Iran and would be willing to impart immediate benefits on Tehran should the Middle Eastern nation halt its pursuit of nuclear development.

Biden also called for a review of the United States’ relationship with Russia, saying the two can find common ground on issues imperative to the security of both.
