US Says Denuclearization is Key Objective of NK Policy

The United States has reaffirmed that the key objective of its policy on North Korea remains the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Acting State Department Deputy Spokesman Gordon Duguid told reporters Wednesday that Washington is reviewing all aspects of its positions on the North.

He made the remark after being asked whether the U.S. is willing to resume the construction of the two light-water reactors in the North that were started in the 1990s.

The spokesman said any move by the North to change the six-way nuclear talks process or neglect its commitments to the nuclear negotiations would be of concern.

Duguid said Clinton has thus far been focusing on the use of the six-nation dialogue framework, declining to address whether Washington is considering holding bilateral talks with the North.
